Torosay Castle and Gardens

Torosay Castle completed in 1858 by the eminent Victorian era architect, David Bryce is a classic of the Scottish Baronial style. It is one of the finer examples of the Scottish architect's work and one of the few still used as a family home and open to the public. 

The castle and its extensive gardens are an archetype of a bygone age. Replete with family portraits, memorabilia and antique furniture, the castle is rich in history dating from the 17th century onwards.

The gardens, meanwhile, extend to 12 acres and are an eclectic mix of formal terraces, tender plants nurtured by the forgiving Gulf Stream, Japanese Gardens and Italian statuary. We are located just off the A77, the main Ayr to Stranraer road, two miles south of Kirkoswald. We are an hour from Glasgow City Centre and 30 minutes from Glasgow Prestwick International Airport.

Torosay Castle and Gardens

Torosay Castle completed in 1858 by the eminent Victorian era architect, David Bryce is a classic of the Scottish Baronial style. It is one of the finer examples of the Scottish architect's work and one of the few still used as a family home and open to the public. 

The castle and its extensive gardens are an archetype of a bygone age. Replete with family portraits, memorabilia and antique furniture, the castle is rich in history dating from the 17th century onwards.

The gardens, meanwhile, extend to 12 acres and are an eclectic mix of formal terraces, tender plants nurtured by the forgiving Gulf Stream, Japanese Gardens and Italian statuary. Also within the grounds is Torosay Farm - home to the castle's herd of pedigree Highland cattle and flocks of Cheviot and Blackface sheep - and two holiday let cottages.

Getting here - The Isle of Mull is just a 40 minute ferry journey away from Oban. From Craignure, head south on the A849 for 1.5 miles. There is also a forest walk from Craignure or you can take the famous narrow gauge railway steam train.
