Kevin Murphy and 16 friends have for the past 18 years walked throughout the United Kingdom for charity in their kilts. This annual event has seen them walk the Spey Way, Offa's Dyke in Wales, Fife Coastal Path and many more mammoth trails. As part of the annual walk they attempt to raise even more money by holding various other events including football tournaments, bowling events, comedy nights and more.
This years chosen charity is CCLASP. This is a small charity in Edinburgh which provides support for parents of children with cancer and leukaemia. CCLASP help to provide vital transport to clinics and wards for almost 400 families, covering over 30,000 miles, costing £6,000 in fuel and almost £2,000 in insurance for their Variety Club Sunshine Coach minibus. Also helping to send families on holiday, continuing to run their telephone helpline for families who need support during this devastating time in their lives, there is nothing more consoling than to speak to someone who understands, another parent with similar experiences.
the lads decided this year to walk The Kintyre Way and made a special crossing to Islay, where they visited Kilchoman, Bruichladdich and Bunnahabhain distilleries. They are pictured here with Bunnhabhain distillery manager John Maclellan. All of our distilleries gave them a warm welcome and a wee dram to boost their spirits for their onward journey.
Each distillery donated a bottle for the CCLASP charity prize draw and The Whisky Coast have offered an overnight stay on Islay with ferry travel.
Kevin Murphy, the organiser of this year's walk, told us 'The walk was a huge success and I have to say this was largely down to your help and the warm welcome we received from all the distilleries we visited. So thank you once again'.
So, if you happen to see 17 men donning kilts and crampons, it's likely to be this motley crew, walking and working hard to raise money for a worthwhile cause - give them a big wave!!
