Whisky Short

A two day overnight trip which will leave you refreshed and relaxed

Your first stop, from Glasgow or Prestwick is the famous Westin Turnberry Resort, near Ayr, enjoying a spectacular coastal setting with breathtaking views of the Isle of Arran, Ailsa Craig and the Irish Sea.

With world-class golf on two championship courses, a superb nine-hole course, and The Colin Montgomerie Links Golf Academy, Turnberry makes an ideal stopping off point on your West Coast Whisky Trail adventure. But if golf and the resort's outdoor activity centre sound too strenuous, relax instead at Turnberry's award-winning spa.

The next day, take a short ferry sail from Ardrossan to Arran – an island with its own unique identity and dominated by the haunting shadow of Goatfell mountain.

The Isle of Arran Distillery is situated in Lochranza. It is one of the newest distilleries in Scotland - the first spout was turned on June 29 1995. Since then many awards and much acclaim have been achieved for the quality of the whisky produced and the company’s export endeavours.

The distillery’s visitor centre has a shop, restaurant, 30 foot waterfall and barley field. A tour starts in an 18th century Crofters Inn, where visitors can see a presentation about whisky making in the past and present. You may want to enjoy lunch in the fully licensed restaurant.

A road runs round the entire island, a relaxing drive enabling you to familiarise yourself with its many diversities. You may be lucky enough to spot red deer on the hills or a golden eagle soaring above the highest peaks.

Whether you don walking boots to explore or prefer to do your sightseeing from your car, after the day’s activities you will be ready to check in to the high quality Auchrannie Resort, nestling in Glencloy, a short distance from the Brodick ferry terminal.

Auchrannie offers visitors a unique choice of accommodation:  two distinctive four star hotels and five star self-catering lodges - all backed with the extensive range of leisure, pampering and dining options normally only found in larger resorts.

Choose between Auchrannie House Hotel with its country house style and panoramic views over its expansive private grounds or Auchrannie Spa with its contemporary feel and spacious bedrooms.

The combination of fine whisky, luxurious accommodation, mountain air and good food  will ensure you leave Arran from your well earned break the following day feeling completely refreshed.
